The Rola Company (and from 1965 onward, Rola/Plessy) was the primary speaker manufacturer used by Goldentone Amplifiers. They also produced Transformers and other electronic components.
The company's long history begins in 1930, here in Melbourne. No direct line can be drawn to the Rola Company of Oakland California, however it does seem as though in the early days they supplied most of the components required for the speakers that where assembled here in the Melbourne factory. By 1937 when the company had established its new long term home on Yarra Boulevard in Richmond, importing of USA manufactured components ceased and local contractors were utilized for metal components while coils were wound in-house.
In 1965 Sydney's Plessey Electronics to over Rola and Plessey/Rola was born. By 1974 the Rola manufacturing plant had closed and Plessey moved onto branding import speakers from Japan.
